PURPOSE:To reduce the cost in working by irradiating the electron beam in a pulse shape having passed a deflection coil via the shielding device having a gap. CONSTITUTION:A pair of copper blocks 1a, 1b for shielding in square cross sections are provided with their position adjustably and set by placing a gap (g) therein. An electron beam 11 is then generated at the upper part of a deflec tion coil 10 and irradiated by aiming at center of the gap (g). In this case, the beam polarized at the right angles direction with the gap (g) is irradiated if half the frequencies of the pulse frequencies to be irradiated. In this way the beam can be irradiated in a pulse shape for the body W to be worked. A piercing and so on are therefore smoothed due to the heated molten metal being evaporated and the member cooled by cutting the irradiation for a short time. The work cost can be reduced with such simple device.
