A novel process for attaching the band start of thin cast bands to a reel and a device for carrying out this process and the subsequent band reeling are described. The band start is supported, in an air-flow channel, by an airstream and is blown by the latter, through a slot in the case of the hollow reel, into the reel interior, after which the band start is clamped in said slot. During the band reeling, the required band tension is provided by a braking roller and the control of the reeling speed is provided by photoelectric barriers in interaction with band loops.
