Perfluoraliphatic-gp.-contg. copolymers (I) with urethane and siloxane units are obtd. by: (a) reaction of diol of formula (II): where m = 1, 2 or 3; n = 0 or 1; -CH2-X- = -CH2-S-, -CH2-N(R)-SO2- or -CH2-N(R)-C(O)- R = H or 1-6C alkyl; Rf = linear or branched H8C perfluoralkyl gp. in which opt. a fluorine atom can be substituted by a 2-6C perfluoroalkyl gp; E = branched or linear 1-10C alkylene opt. broke by 1-3 gps e.g. bivalent bridge members of formula -NR-, -O-, -S-, -SO2-, -COO-, -OOC-, -CONR-, -NRCO-, -SO2NR-, and -NRSO2-, and opt. having a -SO2NR- or -CONR- at the end, in which Rf is coupled with the sulphur or carbon atom of this gp., R Is H or 1-6C alkyl, and the diol can be present in a mixt. with by-prods. formed during mfr. with a di- or polyisocyanate to form an oligo- or polyurethane having free hydroxyl or isocyanate gps; (b) conversion of a oligo- or polyurethane obtd from (a) with a polysiloxane contg. at least two functional gps., which can react with pref. every free hydroxyl or isocyanate gp. of the oligo- or polyurethane. USE/ADVANTAGE - (II) is used for treating fibres. Produces prods. for the effective oil and water repellent structure of fibre materials. Materials are soft to touch.
