摘要 At least one fibre coated with a matrix material is wound round the body which is then covered by a capsule to be evacuated and heated to give a high pressure on all sides. At least one sliver (22) is wound round the carrier body (18) which consists of fibres (20) aligned generally in parallel on at least one plane and coated with a matrix material (24). Separate fibres (20) are embedded in the matrix material (24) within the sliver (22) which has a generally rectangular cross section. When winding a number of sliver layers round the carrier body (18), the sliver (22) in each layer is displaced from the sliver in the preceding layer so that, in all the layers, they are displaced from each other. Fibres (20), coated with the matrix material, have a layer of adhesive to hold a fine grain powder material round the fibre surfaces before the sliver is wound round the carrier body (18). ADVANTAGE - Method prevents fibre breakage during winding and also during the hot isostatic press stage.
