PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject high-purity compound useful for preparing a synthetic raw material for a peroxide suitable as a radical polymerization initiator while maintaining a palladium-supported catalyst to be used in the reaction in high activity. SOLUTION: This method for producing di-(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)-benzene comprises reducing a solution of (2-hydroxy-2-propyl)-cumene hydroperoxide as a main component in methyl isobutyl ketone as a raw material solution with hydrogen in the presence of a palladium-supported catalyst. The hydrogen reduction reaction is preferably carried out under a condition of the formula 140>=T>=1.3X+15Y+35 T is a reaction temperature; X is concentration wt.% of (2-hydroxy-2-propyl)-cumene hydroperoxide in the raw material solution: Y is a concentration wt.% of water content in the raw material solution}. |
