PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a monitor light reflector for detecting faults in optical fiber and an optical connector at a low cost. SOLUTION: A grating selectively reflecting only a monitor light is formed in an optical waveguide mechanism of a surface-mounted optical communication unit, where the optical waveguide mechanism and an optical element are mounted on a board.
