PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the data multiplexer generating a moving picture coding experts group MPEG 2 transport stream to grasp properly a state of an output buffer and to control properly a buffer in response to a change in a read clock, and to output the transport stream properly. SOLUTION: A video encoder 20 and an audio encoder 24 encode video/audio data by the MPEG 2 system. A transport packet is generated via switch circuits 34, 36 and outputted sequentially via an FIFO memory 38. In this case, an FIFO residual amount detection section 432 detects an amount of the transport packet left in the FIFO memory 38 and write of the transport packet to the FIFO memory 38 is controlled based on the remaining amount and an external read clock. |
