PURPOSE: A controlling method of an automatic transmission improves the deceleration effect of the transmission and improves the accelerating ability of a vehicle by implementing a control proper to conditions. CONSTITUTION: An engine torque, a slope and an acceleration are calculated by a mathematical function set by receiving signals varied and outputted according to the running state of a vehicle. Further, the vehicle speed, the slope fidelity, the downhill fidelity, and the brake reducing quantity are generated and functions according to the values are defined. Then, a fuzzy rule about the functions is constituted, thereby finding a condition proper to the intention of a driver. Then, the proper control is implemented to prevent the frequent use of a brake, thereby improving the convenience of a driver, ride comfort and the durability of the vehicle.
