A pipe cooler comprises at least one heat pipe 2, a heat exchange block 3 for heat exchange with an end portion 2a of the heat pipe 2, at least one Peltier element 4 in close contact with a surface of the heat exchange block 3, and a heat transferring means 5 provided on a surface of the Peltier element 4 opposite the heat exchange block 3. The pipe cooler can also form part of a temperature controlling apparatus which has a casing 21 with a heating medium 22 therein. The casing 21 extends around a heat conduction portion 2b of the heat pipe 2. A tube 23 for the flow of fluid to be temperature controlled may be provided within the casing 21. The heat transferring means 5 may be arranged to transfer heat from a hot surface of the Peltier element 4 by water cooling or air cooling. The fluid in tube 23 may be an erosive fluid. |
