PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to install easily and surely a lever for operating a gas cylinder for lifting a chair body. SOLUTION: A covering holder member 22 of reverse L shape, which covers the center axis 18c of an operating lever 18 from one side, is formed in a cut and rising state at the first bracket 9 on which the top end of a gas cylinder 2 is installed. A stopper 24 is inserted between the covering holder member 22 and the side plate of the base 8, and the locking pawl 24b formed on the stopper 24 is locked with the engaging opening 23 formed by the cut and rising of the covering holder member 22. Even if the center axis 18c is turned upward by wrong operation of the operating lever 18, the center axis 18c is supported rigidly by the covering holder member 22. Even when the operating lever 18 is turned horizontally, it only acts to give a compression force to the stopper and so it does not damage or transform the stopper which is made of plastic resin.
