PURPOSE: To provide a sheet type carbon heating element superior in the flexibility and the uniformity in temperature by shaping a mixture of carbon particles having a specific average particle diameter and a binder, having the resistance within a specific range, into a sheet, mounting electrodes with a specified electrode area for specifying a value of apparent resistance between electrodes and the temperature difference of the whole surface of a sheet material in energization, and applying a conductive coating material. CONSTITUTION: A composition prepared by mixing carbon particles of average particle size of 50-3000 μm and a binder, and adjusting a resistance of the mixture within a range of 1-108 Ω.cm, is shaped into a sheet of 1-3.0 mm to be used as a sheet material. Electrodes 1 are mounted on the sheet material, a value of apparent resistance between the electrodes 1, 1 is adjusted to be 10-1000 Ω, and the temperature difference of the whole surface of the sheet material in energization is adjusted to be within 20%. The electrodes 1 are mounted with an area of 10-200% to the total area of a resistor part 2, or an electrically conductive coating is applied, and a power source part 3 is connected between electrodes 1, 1 by the wire bond 4.
