PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance operability at a time of the opening of a cover by facilitating the operation for releasing the engagement of a platen roller with a printing head. SOLUTION: In a printer, the printing head 30 is provided to a printer main body 10 while the platen roller 40 is provided to the cover 20 and the printing head 30 is brought into contact with the platen roller 40 under pressure by a pressure spring 31 to be engaged therewith to hold the cover 20 to the closed state. Paper is fed when the platen roller 40 is rotated forwardly. In both cases of forward and reverse rotations, the platen roller 40 receives reaction force from the printing head. A cover open switch 58 is turned ON to reversely rotate the platen roller 40. The platen roller 40 receives reaction force directed in the opening direction of the cover 20 and gets out of the printing head 30 to bring the cover 20 to an openable state. |
