A digital broadcasting receiver, and an automatic gain control device and method in the digital broadcasting receiver are provided to respond to a variation in the power of a received signal rapidly in a time-varying transmission channel and perform automatic gain control with a high output signal to noise ratio in a transmission channel which is not varied with time. A digital broadcasting receiver includes a tuner, a filter(203), an amplifier, a converter(204), and an automatic gain controller. The tuner amplifies an RF(Radio Frequency) signal received through an antenna to shift the RF signal to an intermediate frequency band. The filter filters signal components other than a desired channel signal. The amplifier amplifies the filtered signal. The converter converts an analog signal output from the amplifier into a digital signal. The automatic gain controller receives the digital signal, compares the digital signal to a predetermined value to output a specific value, accumulates output values and averages the output values to generate a control signal for RF automatic gain control of an intermediate frequency of the amplifier and/or the RF signal of the tuner. The power of the received signal is controlled using the control signal, and the power-controlled signal is converted into a digital signal.
