<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance flatness of a region in which a sealing material outside a display region is formed in a liquid crystal display incorporating a retardation film on a color filter substrate side. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is provided with a liquid crystal display panel having a pair of substrates SUB1 and SUB2, liquid crystal interposed between the pair of substrates and the sealing material formed on the peripheral part of the pair of substrates and sealing the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal display panel has a plurality of sub pixels and each sub pixel of the plurality of the sub pixels has a transmission part 30 and a reflection part 31. One substrate of the pair of the substrates has an alignment layer for retardation film alignment and a retardation-transparent film KSM formed on the alignment layer. In the retardation-transparent film, a retardation film is formed in a region corresponding to at least the reflection part and a transparent film having retardation lower than that of the retardation film is formed in a region other than the region corresponding to at least the reflection part.
