1314259 Rotary drum filter FIVES LILLECAIL 29 Oct 1970 [4 Nov 1969] 51483/70 Heading B1D A rotary drum, which may support a separate filtering belt 12 or could be simply covered with filter medium, comprises a series of peripheral compartments 16 each opening into a chamber 20 inside the drum shell, each chamber 20 being connected to a central filtrate collector 24 by a pipe 22 controlled by a respective valve 26. Valves 26 are opened while the corresponding compartments pass through slurry tank 14 and under cake-washing sprays 66 and closed while the compartments pass through the cake removal zone, where in Fig. 2 the belt 12 leaves the drum and passes round driven discharge roller 60. Valves 26 may be operated in desired sequence by mechanical or electrical means, but as shown they are pneumatically operated by a rotary distributor (46, 48) at one end of the drum (Fig. 1, not shown). A conduit (43) connects collector 24 to suction means at the other end. Tank 14 has a reciprocating agitator 56, inlet 70 and overflow 72. Drum 10 is rotated by worm and pinion (44, 42) which is geared to belt drive roller 60. Compartments 16 are roofed by polypropylene grids which support belt 12. Chambers 20 have inclined floors, with pipes 22 opening through their trailing, deeper ends, and open into respective compartments 16 through holes, of which one aligns with pipe 22, or through slots extending circumferentially the whole width of the compartment. In Fig. 1 chambers 20 are located half way along the drum, but they could be at one end. A pipe (54) and aperture (74) enable air discharged from the valve actuators to flow from the drum interior, preventing condensation therein. |
