When storage is completed, a CPU7 moves a head to a track corresponding to a track number TNO of a temporary storage part 11, starts to record from a block corresponding to a block number BNO, and when recording is completed, the CPU7 stores a recording start address of the next new information, in a RAM10 in accordance with a sequence. In case of a retrieval mode, a reproducing signal 9 is received, a start code EOL is detected, index information of a frame 1F is stored in the RAM and collated with the storage 11, and when they coincide, the CPU7 reads out the TNO and the BNO, and stores them in the RAM10, and also, reproduces the corresponding video signal from a tape and stores 12 it temporarily, and the CPU7 moves the head to the track corresponding to the TNO of the RAM10 and reproduces the signal.
