PURPOSE:To easily attain disordering coating over an entire face by adopting constitution such that ferromagnetic particles are arranged in a prescribed direction before a coated liquid on a nonmagnetic base is solidified and the particles are magnetized by a weak magnetic field at a right angle thereto. CONSTITUTION:Permanent magnets 11, 12 clipping a coating type magnetic recording medium 1 and an electromagnetic coil 30 surrounding the medium 1 are arranged respectively. After the coating liquid containing ferromagnetic particles scattered in the binder is coated in the lengthwise direction of the nonmagnetic base, before the coated liquid is solidified, the base is magnetized in an oblique direction 13 with respect to the lengthwise direction of the medium 1 and then magnetized by the electromagnetic coil 30 in a direction 31 orthogonal to the direction 13. Since the AC magnetic field in the direction 31 is weaker than that in the direction 13, the medium 1 is subjected to disordering coating and the coating liquid is solidified. Thus, even with a medium using magnetic powder having a high orientation used, disordering coating is attained over the entire face.
