A calender (C) for processing thermoplastic materials and comprising a supporting frame and at least four rolls together with profiled side-checks above and between the first pair of rolls has horizontal alignment of the first two roll axes. At least one other roll also lies in the same horizontal plane. The axes of the final two rolls also lie in a common plane, but which is preferably at right angles to the horizontal axes of the first two rolls. USE/AADVANTAGE - (C) is used for producing thermoplastic film partic. PVC film which may be laminated with other sheet material. (C) permits easy feeding of polymeric material to the first two rolls and has simple alteration of film thickness. (C) has a shorter path length reducing heat damage to the film, a lighter supporting frame and can handle both plasticized and non-plasticized polymers.
