<p>The present invention relates to a human T-cell line persistently infected with a Solomon Island HTLV-I-related virus, for example, the cell line, and to the infecting virus, for example, the HTLV-I-SI variant. The cell lines of the present invention grow better and produce more virus than the other known T-cell line persistently infected with an HTLV-I variant from that area. The present invention also relates to vaccines for use in humans against infection with and diseases caused by HTLV-I and variants thereof. The invention further relates to a variety of bioassays for the detection of infection by HTLV-I and variants thereof.</p> |
