PURPOSE:To stabilize the casting operation and to improve the quality by executing the ultrasonic measurement of the condition where the molten metal filled in the die is solifified, and controlling the cooling condition of the die in a casting operation using a die casting machine or the like. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal to be cast is filled within a cavity 4 of a die 1 from a flow-in port 2 of the die 1, and the molten metal within the cavity 4 of the die 1 is irradiated with the ultrasonic wave by driving an ultrasonic transmittor/receiver 3. This ultrasonic wave is reflected at the boundary between the solid phase and the liquid phase of the molten metal, and the behavior of the solidified phase of the molten metal is measured thereby And the internal vibration attenuation condition of the solidifying metal, i.e., the crystalline grain condition can be observed from the intensity of the ultrasonic wave reflected at the boundary surface between the soid phase and the liquid phase, improving the cooling condition of the die. This arrangement controls the cooling condition, stabilizes the casting operation, and improve the quality of the product. |
