PURPOSE:To carry out the hydroformylation of allyl alcohol by reacting allyl alcohol with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium complex compound and a diphosphine compound. CONSTITUTION:Allyl alcohol is made to react with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium compound and a diphosphine compound of formula (R<1> is alkyl or aryl; R<2> and R<3> are alkyl or H) in a solvent (e.g. toluene) at 40-100 deg.C under l-20 atm. pressure. 2-Hydroxytetrahydrofuran useful as a precursor for 1,4-butanediol can be produced by this process in high selectivity while suppressing the formation of by-products such as 2-methyl-3- hydroxypropanal, propionaldehyde and n-propanol. The compound of formula is e.g. trans-2,3-bis(diphenylphosphinomethyl)bicyclo-[2,2,1]-heptane. |
