PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording element having good image quality, a rapid ink drying time and an improved gloss. SOLUTION: The method for ink jet printing comprises the steps of (a) preparing an ink jet printer responding to a digital data signal, (b) charging the ink jet recording element containing a support for carrying an image acceptive layer containing an inorganic anionic pigment, an organic anionic binder and an organic cationic mordant and a porous overcoating layer disposed on the acceptive layer and containing an inorganic pigment and an organic anionic binder in the printer, (c) charging an ink jet ink composition in the printer, and (d) printing the element by using the ink jet ink in response to the digital data signal. In the step (b), a refractive index of the inorganic pigment in the overcoating layer is smaller by at least 0.05 refractive index unit than the refractive index of the inorganic anionic pigment in the acceptive layer. |
