PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for readily carrying out filtration in a method for producing an ester by reacting an organic acid with an alcohol in the presence of an organometallic catalyst while removing water formed as a by- product, producing the ester, then adding water to the reactional product liquid, decomposing the organometallic catalyst, subsequently filtering the resultant liquid and removing insoluble substances. SOLUTION: Nonfouling solid particles are dispersed in the reactional product liquid and water is then added to decompose the organometallic catalyst.
