PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound, useful as both an antimicrobial agent having a wide antimicrobial spectrum and an inhibitor of glutamic acid incorporation and further having long-term enhancing activities in synaptic transmission. SOLUTION: This compound of the formula (R<1> is H or a 1-6C alkyl; R<2> and R<3> are each independently H, a 1-6C alkyl or a 1-6C acyl; R<4> is a 1-12C alkyl; X<1> to X<5> are each independently H or a halogen] or its pharmaceutically permissible salt, e.g. (3-chloro-5-hexyl-2,6-dihydroxy-phenyl)-(4,5-dichloro-1H- pyrrol-2-yl)-methanone is cited. The compound has the following physicochemical properties: appearance: light yellow powder; solubility: soluble in CHCl3 , diethyl ether, acetone, ethyl acetate and methanol, slightly soluble in n-hexane and insoluble in water; melting point: 145-147 deg.C, etc. The compound of the formula can be produced by using Streptomyces sp. PA-48424 (FERM P-14945) which is a species of actinomyces. |
