PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an attaching and detaching operation at the time of selecting the attachment and detachment of a scanner unit on a main body according to the size of a mail whose information is to be read. SOLUTION: A main body 2 having a stand 7 on which a mail 6 is placed is provided with a projecting restraining part 30 projecting from the upper face, while a scanner unit 3 having an optical reading system 14 is provided with a catching hole 31 to be interfit to the part 30 and a handle 39 supported by a supporting shaft 38. At the time of reading the information of the mail 6 whose thickness is equal to on below a prescribed thickness, the scanner unit 3 is loaded on the main body 2, and the mail 6 is inserted between the stand 7 and a reading window 16. In the case of a postal matter such as a postal parcel, the scanner unit 3 detached from the main body 2 is placed on the postal matter 6. Moreover, the center of gravity of the scanner unit 3 and the supporting shaft 38 of the handle 29 and the catching hole 31 are arranged on almost the same vertical plane so that the scanner unit 3 is prevented from being inclined when the hole 31 is interfit to or detached from the part 30. |
