A process for the production of resols from phenols and aldehydes comprises addition of a dispersing agent and complexing agent. A process for the production of resols (I) comprises reaction of phenolic compounds (A) with aldehydes (B) in the presence of catalysts (C) whose metal salts are readily precipitated as poorly soluble salts. A dispersing agent (D) is added to the reaction mixture of (A), (B) and (C) before, during or after the condensation reaction and a complexing agent (E) is added after the termination of the condensation reaction and after addition of (D).
