PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aluminum alloy material good in electrical conductivity, high in mechanical strength and also excellent in heat resistance, and to provide a method for producing a wiring rod using the same. SOLUTION: As to the aluminum alloy material in this invention, a pure Al matrix having purity of >=99.95% is incorporated with, by weight, 0.05 to 0.3% Sc and 0.1 to 0.4% Zr. On the other hand, as to the method for producing an aluminum alloy wiring rod in this invention, a wire rod is formed of an Al alloy material obtained by incorporating a pure Al matrix having purity of >=99.95% with 0.05 to 0.3% Sc and 0.1 to 0.4% Zr, the wire rod is subjected to plastic working at a reduction of area of >=50%, and the wire rod after the plastic working is subjected to heat treatment at 300 to 500 deg.C for 0.5 to 100 hr.
