PURPOSE: Display device for creating intermediate gradation levels in pseudo manner and imaging signal processing method are provided to realize a display device and an image signal processing method, which generate intermediate gradation levels in a pseudo-manner and which realize an image display having a more natural luminance change without undergoing the limitation of the number of gradation bits of input image data. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises an image output section (display section)(2) formed of an LCD, a PDP, an EL display, a CRT, or the like, a detection circuit (gradation change detection means)(3), and a conversion circuit (image data conversion means)(4). This display device(1) is capable of realizing the equivalent of a 9-bit gradation display in a pseudo-manner.
