PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regulate over drying of refuse incident to abrupt variation of properties, at a stretch, over the entire region in the longitudinal direction in a drum. SOLUTION: In a kiln type refuse dryer where a duct 7 blowing hot air 6 toward refuse 10 is disposed in a lateral drum 1 being driven rotationally, water spray pipes 18 and 20 provided with a large number of water spray nozzles 17 and 19 are laid in the longitudinal direction at upper and lower positions in the drum 1. When the refuse 10 begins to be over dried during operation, water is sprayed from the water spray pipes 18 and 20 and over drying of the refuse 10 in the drum 1 is regulated, at a stretch, over the entire region in the longitudinal direction.
