PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-sided image read apparatus provided with stable carry performance and double-sided high quality image readability using inexpensive read means. SOLUTION: A first read unit 123 and a second read unit 125 for reading an original are disposed from upstream to downstream of the sheet carrying direction in a double-sided image reading area, with the first read unit 123 being fixed and the second read unit being nearly vertically variable with respect to the read surface, and, on the other hand, a first white standard 124 opposing the first read unit 123 is nearly vertically variable with respect to the read surface of the first read unit, with a second white standard 126 opposing the second read unit being fixed.
