Slug barrier for protecting crops has rectangular or curved upper edge that turns back to prevent slugs seeing the way ahead

The slug barrier consists of a panel, made e.g. from plastic, metal, stone or cement, having a vertical section (ABC) some 30 cm high which is buried in the ground to a depth of about 20 cm. The top of the panel has two rectangular portions (CD, DE) with widths of about 4 cm and 3 cm respectively which turn back away from the barrier so that the edge of the second section (DE) points downwards. In a variant of the design the top of the barrier can be curved outwards through 180 degrees. A slug climbing to the top of the barrier cannot see its way forward once it reaches the outer edge, and turns back the way it came.
