<p>According to this invention a fixing device (10) for an endotracheal tube (22) (or any other surgical drainage tube) comprises, in essence, a purpose designed ratchet strap fastener. The fixing device (10) comprises a ratchet strap fastener, made up of a flexible ratchet strap (12), a slotted keeper (14) and an anchor plate (16). The components of the fixing device (10) are integrally moulded in injection moulded plastics. In use the fixing device 10 is secured to the tube 22 of an endotracheal tube with the strap (12) encircling the tube (22). The anchor plate 16 angles away from the endotracheal tube (22) and since the anchor plate (16) is parallel to the plane of encirclement of the strap (12) secured around the endotracheal tube (22), the anchor plate (16) extends perpendicularly to the endotracheal tube (22). This means that the anchor plate (16) appropriately positioned to lie flat against the skin of the patient's upper lip area (24.1), where the anchor plate (16) can be secured in place, thereby to secure the endotracheal tube (22) in place. The free end of the fixing device strap (12) may be cut off (at 28) and discarded.</p> |
