<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-noise and high-reliability lamp cooling device, and a projection type display device. <P>SOLUTION: In the lamp cooling device for cooling a lamp 1 where a light emitting source 3a is arranged in space inside the lamp 10 surrounded by a front glass plate 5 and a reflector 2 reflecting light from the light emitting source 3a to the front glass plate 5 side, connection ports 13 and 14 connected to the space inside the lamp 10 are formed at both ends 15 and 16, and both ends 15 and 16 are linked in the outside space of the lamp 1.
