PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device controlling a brake for an elevator so as to suppress operation sound in a brake releasing time and so as to stably carry out opening operation. SOLUTION: A releasing time, when a bake coil is energized on the basis of a forcible excitation current command so as to release a brake for rapidly releasing a rotational body, is learned, and a differential value between the releasing time and an operation time from the start of release of pressure contact between a frictional material and the rotational body to the finish of release of the rotational body is computed so as to be used as a previously exciting time. During the previously exciting time, the brake coil is energized on the basis of the forcible excitation current command, and afterward, a switch to a silencing excitation current command is carried out and the brake coil is energized for releasing the brake.
