PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the time for replacement of an anion-exchange resin by evaluating simply and accurately the performance of the resin packed in a mix-bed ion-exchange tower and the like of a condensate demineralizer used in a power plant. SOLUTION: A solution of polystyrenesulfonic acid of known concentration is passed through a column 2 filled with an anion-exchange resin, and a UV- absorptivity of the column effluent is measured with a UV-absorptiometer 3. Polystyrenesulfonic acid concentration of the effluent is obtained from the measured value, and from this result an adsorption of the polystyrenesulfonic acid on the anion-exchange resin is calculated to evaluate the performance of the anion-exchange resin and a residual period of its use.
