A position recognition algorism of a cleaning robot is provided to receive light of a specific wavelength, read a position of a recognition mark, and calculate an absolute position of the robot, using a DSP(Digital Signal Processor) for determining the position and direction of the robot moving in an indoor space. A position recognition system for a cleaning robot comprises a flash ROM(Read Only Memory,1), an SRAM(Static Random Access Memory,2), an MCU(Micro Control Unit,3), a CMOS(Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor,4), an RS232(5), a recognition mark(6), and a power controller(7). The flash ROM and SRAM load an image signal processing program. The MCU processes an image signal and carries out localization algorism. The RS232 processes an image signal and transmits the processed value to a platform of the cleaning robot. The CMOS generates the image signal and transmits the image signal to a DSP(Digital Signal Processor). The recognition mark is composed within a 5x5cm^2 range.
