A consumer unit 300 and receptacles (400; figures 5 to 8) therefor provide an intuitive, plug-and-play system whereby a user, by the appropriate selection of receptacles having pins (P, Q R, Z, W, Lo, L1, L2, L3) keyed to appropriate conductors (328, 330. 332, 340, 342, 344) of the consumer unit, can connect almost any of the consumer unit's conductors to any of a ways terminals 136, 138, 140 in almost any desired permutation. The invention removes the need for fly leads and other wiring within a consumer unit, and may also enable circuits connected to each way to be configured differently, or adjusted post-installation, simply by swapping receptacles for those of different types. In most practical applications, the consumer unit will comprise a plurality of ways 134, and thus a respective plurality of receptacles will be needed. The invention enables ways to be individually connected to different phases 304, 306, 308 of a three-phase power supply by the use of a phase selector (402; figure 5), phase selection being automatic in certain embodiments. |
