The auger boring tool produces column foundations in the ground. The machine drive unit has a motor and clamp which is lowered into the borehole with a tube for absorbing the reaction torque of the motor. The clamp can be moved axially in the housing within limited working stroke in the housing. The borer is also able to bore hard or rocky ground. Between the housing holding the clamp and drive motor and the housing for the screw borer is arranged a double acting hydraulic cylinder. This pushes the housing downwards when the clamp is applied.
