The portable guard (1) is intended for covering long portions of workpieces, e.g. tubes, during screw cutting on a building site, whilst the tubes are horizontally supported on stands (2). It comprises inverted U-section cover elements (3-6), of which two (5,6) are each telescopically slidable in an outer element (3,4). The two outer elements are hinged a transverse pivot (8) and are each hingeable (21) to a support stand about a longitudinally extending pivot (27). The outer elements are pref. provided with locks (11-13), for the operating position and locks (18,19) for transport, when hinged together. PS.
