PURPOSE:To provide a carrier having uniform and fine pores, by forming a spherical porous body of a hydrolyzate, etc., of metal alkoxide having fine pores sized 20-1,000Angstrom , 100-600m<2>/g specific surface area and 1-300mum average grain size. CONSTITUTION:Water of 0.1-2.4mol times the metal alkoxide is dispersed and held in the form of water drops in the liquid metal alkoxide and the metal alkoxide is maintained at a temp. below the b.p. of the metal alkoxide to hydrolyze the metal alkoxide. The spherical gel consiting of the hydrolyzate of the metal alkoxide and having 1-300mum average grain size is thereby formed in the dispersed state. The resulted spherical gel is separated. The spherical gel is heat-treated, by which the spherical porous body having 20-1,000Angstrom pore size and 100-600m<2>/g specific surface area is obtd.
