In the case of a read-off ruler for knitting patterns and the like, in which two longitudinal gaps 1, 2 are formed between two side bars 3, 4 and intermediate bar 5, such that a sheet 6 with a pattern can be introduced through the gaps 1, 2 in such a way that only one band of the sheet 6 is visible between the side bars 3 and 4, the novelty resides in the fact that in the area of the gaps 1 and 2 the difference between the undersides 8, 9 of the side bars 3, 4 on the one hand and the top side 7 of the intermediate bar 5 on the other is significantly less than the thickness 10 of the ruler.
