A thermostatic device for controlling the temperature of at least one sample at any desired value within a predetermined temperature range comprises a basic element (12) having good thermal conductivity connected thermally by a first end to a first thermostat (14) and by a second end to a second thermostat (16) which can be set to a temperature different from that of the first. The device is dimensioned so that a temperature gradient exists along the basic element (12) between the two ends. It also comprises a sample holder (22) which is arranged on the basic element (12) and which can be thermally coupled with the latter at any point between the ends of the basic element.
