<p>A liquid crystal display device, comprising a set of substrates (1A, 1B) facing each other at least one of which is transparent, transparent electrodes (2A, 2B) provided respectively to each facing plane of the substrates (1A, 1B), a light absorbing layer held between the transparent electrodes (2A, 2B), and an electric power source (5) for applying an electric field to the light absorbing layer, characterized in that the light absorbing layer is composed of two layers (3A, 3B), each of the layers has dichroism, and average light absorbing axis of the each layers (3A, 3B) without electric field is approximately parallel to the substrate plane and crossing each other almost orthogonally, and the average light absorbing axis of the each layers changes the axis direction by applying said electric field. In accordance with the present invention, the liquid crystal display device has eye-tireless bright display, long life time, and an electric power saving character is realized. <IMAGE></p> |
