The retainer comprises a main plate 12 portion having an opening 22 for mounting an inflator and mounting members 14, 16, 18, 20 upstanding from the sides of the main plate portion. To reduce weight, the retainer is made of a synthetic resin reinforced with glass fibre and a reinforcing metal mesh is embedded in the plate portion 12. Other arrangements having metal plate reinforcements are described, and one in which "long" reinforcing fibres are spirally arranged the inflator hole. <IMAGE> |
