PURPOSE:To discriminate the cause of a communication defect at the time of the occurrence of the communication defect of a communication system. CONSTITUTION:In the communication system in which two communication equipments 10 and 20 incorporating MODEMs 11 and 21 at inputting and outputting parts are connected to each other through signal transmission lines 31 and 32 and in a communication method in which one side communication equipment 10 verifies the operation of the other side communication equipment 20, a prescribed test signal is transmitted from the testing communication equipment 10 through the signal transmission line 31 to the communication equipment 20 to be tested, and the communication equipment 20 to be tested discriminates whether or not the received signal is the test signal in a MODEM 21. Then, when the received signal is the test signal, it is transmitted from the MODEM 21 through the signal transmission line 32 to the testing communication equipment 10 as it is, and the testing communication equipment 10 verifies a return signal from the communication equipment 20 to be tested. |
