PURPOSE: To enhance the economy by controlling the phase of the basic wave in a power system in order to control the link voltage of a power converter on the counter-power system side thereby minimizing the number of switching times and reducing the loss. CONSTITUTION: The power system compensation system comprises a power converter unit 36 acting on a transmission line 30 in series therewith, and a voltage control means 27 for controlling the link voltage VLIM of the power conveter unit 36 on the counter-power system side thereof (or an AC voltage Vac on the power system side reflecting the link voltage VLIM, or an amount depending thereon). Since the voltage control means 27 controls the phase of the basic wave in the power system, the power conveter unit 36 can be operated by non-PWM or with a fixed pulse width ratio. This constitution minimizes the number of switching times and reduces the loss to enhance the economy. |
