PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the joining of an Al member to a ceramic member by forming a metallic layer consisting essentially of Al on the surface of the ceramic member and joining the Al member onto the resultant metallic layer with a brazing filler material, containing Cu and Si and consisting essentially of Al. SOLUTION: A metallic layer, consisting essentially of Al and having >=0.08μm thickness is formed on the surface of a ceramic member and an Al member is then joined thereonto with a brazing filler material, containing 22.5-32.5wt.% Cu and >=5.9wt.% Si and consisting essentially of Al (having <=584 deg.C melting point). Nonoxide ceramics (e.g. Si3 N4 ), oxide ceramics (e.g. Al2 O3 ), oxynitride ceramics (e.g. sialon), etc., can be applied to the ceramic member. The method for producing a combination of the ceramic member 1 to the Al member 2 comprising forming the metallic layer 40 consisting essentially of Al on the surface of the ceramic member 1 and then joining the Al member 2 thereonto with the brazing filler material 3 consisting essentially of Al is shown in the figure.
