The washing machine or dishwasher has a reservoir (11) for the recovery and storage of rinsing water, the water recovered being re-used as washing water in a subsequent washing operation, or as cooling water for a condenser (4) in a subsequent drying operation, the cooling water in turn being recovered in the reservoir (11), together with condensation water resulting from the drying operation.
