PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce, to 0.6 ps/m or below, a skew value that is due to the difference of the refractive index of an element wire at the time of optical fiber tape formation. SOLUTION: A GI type element wire is cut into element wires of a few hundred meters, with a refractive index measured at both ends of the element wires. The wires whose difference of refractive index at both ends is 0.01% or less are selected, with a plurality of such element wires bundled. The wires are then put in order, coated and formed into one optical fiber tape, in this method of manufacturing a low skew optical fiber tape.
