<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recovering separately plutonium from off-specification fuel and/or a waste containing plutonium oxide, without being affected by a plutonium enrichment and a thermal history. <P>SOLUTION: In this plutonium recovery method from the off-specification fuel and/or waste containing plutonium oxide, a eutectic crystal of plutonium and silicon is formed by heating after mixing the off-specification fuel and/or waste containing plutonium oxide, and silicon carbide, and then the eutectic crystal is dissolved in nitric acid to recover the plutonium as plutonium nitrate. The plutonium nitrate is separately recovered thereby efficiently because the silicon, the unreacted silicon carbide, silicon oxides of reaction by-products and the like forming the eutectic crystal are insoluble in the nitric acid. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
